about

Written on travels between UK and South Africa this song is about the celebration of coming home to the home inside.
Whilst making this album, Carrie returned to Durban , South Africa to work with Zulu singers Albert Mazibuko, from the legendary Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Mirium Makeba's musical arranger Zamo Mbutho as well as Lu Dlamini from Headroom Studios.
This song wouldn't rest until it felt complete and became a joyful experiment of instruments, language, textures and subtle landscapes.

lyrics

Mama Kita

Mama, I hear the call in every stone,
Your ancient pulse drums me home.
Father, our love's as timeless as the tree's
Your gentle way shines down on me.

Mama Kita Ma Khaya..

Gogo, I saw the red earth of your land,
It wakes me and shakes me, takes hold of my hand.
And here I stand with a quest on my heart,
I'm here to heal my ancestors song,
I'm here to find out where I come from...

Mama Kita Ma Khaya..

The whispering wind says to follow it,
My aching heart say's
'Drop everything - return to the fire'
I love this ground so tenderly.

Mama Kita Ma Khaya..

Mpe pelekeqe sigubhu siyavuma,
Liyakubiza ikhaya lakho.
Umama ulindile, umhilo ubaziwe.
Umama Kita uyalilizela
Waqhumisa mpepho umkhula
UMama Kita ikhaya lami.

Bavuma phezulu,
Lavuma Izulu,
Zavuma Izangoma,
Savuma,
Ngavuma
